General Questions:
Yes, you can specify a maximum character length for generated alt text in your account settings. While Google and modern screen readers don’t impose length limits, we provide this option for those who may prefer to set one.
No, we don’t store uploaded images or any binary files. Only the original image URLs, generated alt text, and any related metadata you choose to add are kept in your account.
Not at this stage, but we plan to introduce this at a later date.
Our pricing plans are straightforward: each one provides a specific number of monthly credits, even if you’re on a recurring plan. Each time alt text is generated, one credit is used. Unused credits will roll over to the next billing cycle, and you can view your credit balance and usage on your Dashboard. You’re free to cancel anytime.
We support alt text generation for a range of popular formats, including JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, and BMP, as long as they are under 16MB and at least 50x50 pixels.
If you decide to cancel your plan, automatic renewals will stop, and you won’t be charged going forward. Any unused credits in your account will still be available for use.
No, we are not a CDN or a DAM system. You’ll need to store and serve the images yourself. Our service focuses on generating alt text, and we recommend against using it for real-time alt text generation, as processing may take a few seconds per image.
Yes, you can link multiple websites or integrations to your account. Many of our customers manage several sites under a single account. As long as you have available credits, you can generate alt text across all your sites.
No, any alt text you’ve generated remains intact even if you uninstall the plugin or app. For instance, if you’ve used our WordPress plugin to add alt text to 500 images and then uninstall it, that alt text will stay on those images.
The alt text generated by our service is for your exclusive use. We don’t use this data for training or other purposes. Uploaded images are only held temporarily to generate alt text; once processed, the binary data is immediately deleted.
WordPress Plugin:
Yes! To update the alt text for a specific image, go to your WordPress Media Library, open the image, and click the "Update alt text" button. This action will apply new alt text exclusively to that image, replacing any existing alt text in WordPress.
Option 1: Head to Bulk Generate in your WordPress dashboard. There, you’ll see the number of images without alt text, and you can generate alt text for all of them in one go.
Option 2: In the Media Library list view, select multiple images, choose "Generate Alt Text" from the Bulk Actions dropdown, and the plugin will start updating the alt text for your selected images immediately.
GenAltText.app can automatically include SEO keywords in the alt text if you’re using an SEO plugin like Yoast, RankMath, AllInOne, SEOPress, The SEO Framework, or Squirrly SEO. Simply set the focus keyword for your post, and any images you upload to that post will have relevant alt text generated with these keywords included.
If you’re not using an SEO plugin, you can still optimize alt text by selecting the option in the GenAltText.app settings to use the post title as the keyword when generating alt text.
If your images aren’t being updated with alt text, open the GenAltText.app settings in your WordPress admin area. Ensure the option indicating whether your site is publicly accessible is set correctly. If your site isn’t public, uncheck this option, which allows GenAltText.app to upload images for analysis directly.
Alternatively, make your site public and check this box so that GenAltText.app can fetch images using URLs.
For further troubleshooting, view the Error Logs within the settings, which may reveal issues such as image size or dimensions being outside the allowable range.
This will be coming in the future.
